It’s not technically winter yet, but it’s starting to feel like it! My Japanese maple is bare except for some pretty spider webs catching dew drops and a bit of sunlight. I haven’t donned my winter coat yet, but I’ve started to wear scarves—and the only footwear getting use are my boots. On Thanksgiving, we temporarily stored leftovers on the back porch to keep them cool (the fridge was stuffed).
Speaking of Thanksgiving, I contributed pasta puttanesca as the vegetarian main dish this year. Not very Thanksgiving-y, but it was delicious and very spicy. Perhaps a new tradition? I also made vegetarian gravy, apple pie, and pumpkin pie with a sugar pumpkin. The apple pie was rather lackluster, sadly, but the pumpkin pie was great. I’m not as experienced with pies as I am with cake and cookies, so I’m still working on the perfect apple pie.
We had many desserts to choose from, though: in addition to apple and three different pumpkin pies, there was lemon pudding pie, mincemeat pie, and an applesauce cake. Pie party!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and is enjoying the long weekend!
