This past July, The Moveable Feast put on Tacoma’s first food truck festival. More than 30 food trucks, many South Sound-based, parked in the Cheney Stadium parking lot and served up a variety of cuisines. I was unable to attend, but I heard it was a hit! So naturally, I jumped at the chance to attend their September 8 follow-up event.
D.I.N.E. (Delicious Infield Nosh Extravaganza) was a smaller, 21+, ticketed food truck fest in the Cheney Stadium infield featuring a beer garden, live music, and five food trucks: Lumpia World, Choripan by Asado, Burrito Boy, Maximus/Minimus, and Celebrity Cake Studio.
As a vegetarian, I was pleasantly surprised at my options; four of the five trucks had at least one vegetarian item. I settled for Lumpia World’s vegetable pancit and vegetable lumpia, pictured top. These are traditional Filipino dishes with lots of flavor. I pretty much ignored my dining companions for the next five minutes while I scarfed down my dinner. Delicious! Lumpia World also had soba noodle soup with tofu, among other options. (See their sandwich board menu in the photo below.)
Other vegetarian options included cake from Celebrity Cake Studio, a veggie sandwich from Maximus/Minimus (also vegan), and a veggie burrito from Burrito Boy. I wish I could have tried the burrito and sandwich, but that’s way too much food for one night. Instead, I settled on dessert: Kahlua cake from Celebrity Cake Studio. Again, yum! Flavorful and moist.
The Moveable Feast is already working on next year’s food truck festival, planned for Sunday, July 28, 2013. See you there!
