Photographing ice cream. Could my life get any sweeter?
I made these photographs for my most recent South Sound magazine article, which focused on local ice cream makers. The ice cream pictured comes from Ice Cream Social, a Tacoma-based ice cream cart you can find at local farmers markets and events in Tacoma. The flavors I photographed include vegan coconut rum with chocolate chips, and Valhalla coffee. The Valhalla ice cream is incredible.
I had so much fun setting up my mini studio in the dining room for this shoot. It was tricky getting the scoops of ice cream to cooperate, but I experimented with a handy trick I learned from two food photography books I read recently (here and here): put several scoops of ice cream onto a baking sheet with parchment paper, then freeze the whole thing for a few minutes. That way, your ice cream will stay frozen longer.
